ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The MSU Denver women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against Central Washington on Thursday night, earning its second tie in three matches to open the 2026 season.
The Roadrunners move to 0-1-2 on the season following the result.
After a scoreless opening half, MSU Denver broke through in the 58th minute when Grace Johnson found the back of the net for her second goal of the season, giving the Roadrunners a 1-0 advantage.
Central Washington responded just four minutes later, however, with Cam Sheets scoring in the 62nd minute off an assist from Emma Barrett to even the match at 1-1.
Neither team could find a go-ahead goal over the remainder of regulation, as the Roadrunners secured the draw on the road.
Central Washington held a slight advantage in total shots, 11-9, while MSU Denver put six shots on goal compared to eight for the Wildcats. The Roadrunners finished with seven saves to Central Washington's five.
Morgan Shirley made her first start of the season in goal for MSU Denver and turned in a strong performance, recording six saves while allowing just one goal on Central Washington's 11 shots.
The Roadrunners were led offensively by Maya Woods, who registered three shots, with all three finding the target. Madrid Mack added two shots, both on goal, while Johnson finished with two shots and scored on one of her attempts.
Johnson now leads MSU Denver with two goals through the team's first three matches.
The Roadrunners will remain in Washington to close out the weekend, and will face Saint Martin's on Saturday at 11 a.m. MT.
