The Metro State volleyball team (10-7, 8-2 RMAC) continued its unpredictable play with a five-game victory over Western State, Friday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play at the Auraria Events Center. The 'Runners prevailed 25-18, 24-26, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13.

As has been pattern for the Roadrunners lately, they came out strong in the first set, hitting .341 as a team and cruising to the first-set victory. Metro built an 18-13 lead in the second set, but let the Mountaineers back in with a 6-0 run. The teams traded points until 24-24, when Western recorded two consecutive kills to close the set. They used that momentum in the third set to take a 2-1 advantage.
The teams traded points early in the fourth set, but the Roadrunners went on a 9-2 run in the middle of the set to take a 19-13 lead. It took the 'Runners six tries to close out the set, but a kill but Lisa Jones forced the fifth set.
Three early kills from Causseaux gave Metro State the early 5-1 lead in the fifth set, but Western slowly chipped away and closed to within one a 9-8. Metro State reached 14-11 following an ace from Amay Watanabe, but could not close out the match until Jones tipped through the block to finish the match.
The 'Runners finish off their three-match homestand tonight against CSU-Pueblo at 7 p.m. The match has been designated "Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness" night.
