LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The No. 6 Metro State women's soccer team stretched its winning streak to 12 games with a 3-0 win at Colorado Christian on Wednesday in Lakewood. The Roadrunners improved to 14-1-0 overall and 11-0-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Cougars dropped to 4-5-2 and 2-5-1 in the RMAC.
The 12-game winning streak ties for the second-longest winning streak in school history. This is the third time Metro State has won 12 in a row, the previous two times coming in 2003 and 2006. The school record winning streak is 46 games from Sept. 5, 2004, through Nov. 13, 2005.
Jen Thomas (Aurora, Colo./Greeley West H.S.) scored twice for the Roadrunners. She put Metro State on the board in the 11th minute on
Ashley Munchiando (Arvada, Colo./Mullen H.S.)'s cross from the corner.
Becca Mays (San Antonio, Texas/Madison H.S.) made the score 2-0 six minutes later as she finished
Courtney Ryan (Chula Vista, Calif./Coronado H.S.)'s free kick.
Thomas scored again eight minutes into the second half as she finished a pass from
Ashley Nemmers (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) in front of the net in traffic.
The Metro State defense was stellar, allowing just two shot attempts as
Becca Maloney (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) stopped CCU's only shot on goal.
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Friday when they host Regis at 1 p.m. at Auraria Field.
Stats were unavailable as of Wednesday night. They should be online sometime on Thursday.
