Large Shot Advantage Pushes Metro State Past Adams State

Box Score

ALAMOSA, Colo. -
The No. 4 Metro State women's soccer team held a 36-2 shot advantage and went on to a 2-0 victory over Adams State on Friday in Alamosa.  It was Metro State's 16th straight win, improving the Roadrunners to 18-1-0 overall and 15-0-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The Grizzlies fell to 6-12-2 overall and 4-10-2 in the RMAC.

The 36 shot attempts for Metro State was the most for the Roadrunners since attempting 38 against Adams State on Oct. 3, 2008.  Ashley Nemmers (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) led the Roadrunners with 11 shots and Becca Mays (San Antonio, Texas/Madison H.S.) had 10.  It was also the first time more than one player for Metro State has had at least 10 shot attempts in a game since Nov. 12, 2004, when three players had 10 or more attempts.  Nemmers' 11 attempts the most for any Metro State player this season.  Mays had 10 shots a week ago at Nebraska-Kearney.

Hayley Renko (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview H.S.) provided the first goal of the game, the first of her career, just over a minute-and-a-half into the contest as she connected on a shot from 20 yards out on top of the box after ASC failed to clear a corner kick.  She became the 12th player for Metro State to score a goal this season.

Nemmers scored the game's other goal in the 43rd minute on a header after Aleah DeGeneres (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) crossed the ball from the right corner.

Becca Maloney (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) stopped Adams State's only shot on goal for her ninth shutout of the season.

Kirsten Dorsey made nine saves for the Grizzlies.

The Roadrunners attempted 21 shots in the first half and 15 in the second half.  ASC had just one attempt each half.

Metro State is now 14-0-0 all-time against Adams State.

Metro State will play its final regular season game of the year at home on Sunday at noon against UC-Colorado Springs.
