COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Metro State women's basketball team defeated UC-Colorado Springs 83-70 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season finale on Saturday evening in Colorado Springs. Metro State finished the regular season with an overall record of 14-13 and 12-7 in the RMAC. UCCS finished 8-19 overall and 6-13 overall. The Roadrunner women will open the RMAC Shootout on Tuesday, March 3 at Colorado State-Pueblo after earning the fifth seed in the tournament.
Megan Sinclair scored a game-high 27 points, just one shy of her career high of 28. The lone senior for Metro State shot 13-of-14 from the line and 7-of-12 from the field, while adding seven assists, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks to fill up her stat line. Jasmine Cervantes scored 15 points with eight rebounds and six assists, while Sharaya Selsor 4-of-5 from the field, including 2-of-2 from the outside for 13 points and six rebounds and three steals.
Metro State was 26-of-29 (.897) from the free throw line in the game and shot 44.8 percent from the field. The Roadrunners also enjoyed a 39-31 rebounding edge.
Nancy Hoist led the Mountain Lions with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Lauren Holm added 10 points in the losing effort.
The Roadrunners trailed 34-30 at the half. UCCS had nine second-chance points and 10 points off turnovers in the first half.
Trailing 40-39 with 15 minutes left in the game, Metro State took the lead for good and went on a 14-5 run over the next three minutes to open an eight-point lead as Leandra Sands and Kiley Gill each hit 3-pointers. The Roadrunners controlled play the rest of the way, leading by as much as 14 in the final minutes.
