DENVER, Colo. - Rae Bean led four Metro State players in double figures with a career-high 22 points, but Nebraska -Kearney came away with an 82-70 victory at the Auraria Event Center.
A Jade Meads three-pointer gave the Lopers a 15-point advantage at 21-6 with 13:14 to play in the first half, but the Roadrunners closed the gap to 36-30 at the break.
Nebraska-Kearney pushed the lead to 19 points in the second half after a pair of Kaitlin Petri free throws with just under 10 minutes remaining, but the Roadrunners responded with a 13-4 run to pull within 60-50 with 6:57 to play.
A Kiley Gill jumper brought the Roadrunners to within five points at 72-67 with just 1:24 on the clock, but the Lopers sank eight straight free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Gill finished the game with 11 points, while Sharaya Selsor chipped in 12 and Megan Sinclair added 10.
Meads posted 22 points to lead the Lopers, who improved to 13-8 overall and 8-5 in conference play.
Metro State, now 9-12 overall and 7-6 in the RMAC, plays its final two regular season home games next weekend, Feb. 13-14, vs. Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian, respectively. The Feb. 14th game has been designated Fan Appreciation Day, with plenty of giveaways and a pre-game tailgate party at 11:30 a.m. at the Event Center. The men's game tips off at 1 p.m. and will be nationally televised live on CBS CollegeSports. The women's game follows at 3:30 p.m.
