DENVER, Colo. -
The No. 13 Metro State women's soccer team stretched its winning streak to seven with a 4-1 win over Colorado State-Pueblo on Sunday afternoon at Auraria Field in Denver on homecoming.  The Roadrunners improved to 9-1-0 overall and 6-0-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSUP dropped to 3-6-1 overall and 2-4-0 in the RMAC.

Metro State received goals from Jen Thomas (Aurora, Colo./Greeley West H.S.), Becca Mays (San Antonio, Texas/Madison H.S.), Ashley Nemmers (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) and Michael' Ann Karas in the victory.  Thomas also added an assist for a three-point performance.

Becca Maloney (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) earned the victory in goal, making four saves.

Mays scored the first goal of the game in the 13th minute when Thomas crossed the ball from the left corner and Mays punched it in from the middle of the box.

The ThunderWolves briefly tied the game at 1-1 in the 21st minute as Morgan Purkey buried a free kick from 25 yards out from the right corner.

Karas then netted the goal-ahead goal following a corner kick from Courtney Ryan (Chula Vista, Calif./Coronado H.S.) nine minutes later as her high kick from the top of the box went through goalkeeper Randi Walters' hands.

Metro State continued to pressure CSUP with four shots in the next five minutes.  Thomas scored Metro State's next goal in the 37th minute.  Kathryn Gosztyla (Orangevale, Calif./Trabuco Hills H.S.)'s free kick from 40 yards away found Thomas' head in front of the net and the header again went through Walters' hands after she deflected the ball up into the top of the net.

Nemmers scored the final goal of the game less than five minutes into the second half after two passes from Aleah DeGeneres (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) and Ashley Munchiando (Arvada, Colo./Mullen H.S.).

Metro State had more chances in the second half as it outshot the ThunderWolves 12-4 in the second half and 24-6 in the game.  Taylor Nicholls (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) had perhaps the best scoring chance that failed to find the back of the net as her rising shot from close in was stopped by Walters in the 74th minute.  Caitlin Oliver (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe H.S.) had a 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper in the 84th minute, but again Walters was there for a diving save.

The Roadrunners wrap up a three-game homestand next weekend as they host Adams State at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and Nebraska-Kearney at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
