DENVER, Colo. - Four Metro State players scored in double figures as Metro State went on to a 65-54 win at Regis on Tuesday evening. The win evened Metro State's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record to 4-4 and improved the Roadrunners to 9-7 overall, while the Rangers fell to 8-8 overall and 1-7 in the RMAC.
Brandi Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) reached a new career high in scoring for the second straight game, pouring in 17 points, by hitting 7-of-11 from the floor. She added five rebounds and three steals.
Alyssa Benson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Minnetonka H.S.) added 11 points off the bench.
Jasmine Cervantes (Johnstown, Colo./Berthoud H.S.) and
Chelsea Williamson (Boulder, Colo./Boulder H.S.) each scored 10. Cervantes had one of her best all-around games in a Metro State uniform as the pulled down nine rebounds, dished out five assists and had five steals.
Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) continued to be a rebounding machine, pulling down 12 boards and added eight points, five assists and four steals. She helped Metro State to a 42-28 rebounding advantage.
The Roadrunners forced 21 turnovers in the game and shot 44.1 (26-for-59) percent from the floor.
Metro State had its second recovered from a halftime deficit for the second time in three games and just the second time all season as it trailed 28-25 at the break.
The Roadrunners opened the second half with nine straight points to take a 34-28 lead and never looked back. They continued to steadily add to their lead, reaching as high as 14 points with under a minute left in the game.
Metro State will travel to UC-Colorado Springs for a 6 p.m. game on Saturday.
