Six Players Hit Double Figures in Road Victory

Metro State had six players score in double figures on Saturday as it rolled to a 90-68 road victory at UC-Colorado Springs in its best offensive game of the season.  The Roadrunners jumped over .500 in the conference, improving to 5-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and 10-7 overall, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-12 overall and 1-8 in the RMAC.

The 90 points were the most for Metro State this season as the Roadrunners hit 50.0 percent from the floor.  They also enjoyed a season-best +26 rebounding advantage, outrebounding UCCS 52-26, and got to the foul line a season-high 38 times, hitting 24 free throws.

Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) had the biggest game of her young career, with a career-high 18 points to go with 13 rebounds for her fourth double-double of her freshman season.  She also reached double digits in rebounds for the fourth time in the past five games and hit 6-of-11 field goals on Saturday.

Jasmine Cervantes (Johnstown, Colo./Berthoud H.S.) neared a triple-double, settling for a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.  The sophomore guard has scored in double figures in each of the past six games after shooting 5-of-10 from the floor on Saturday.

Brandi Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) was also one of six Roadrunners to score in double figures, scoring 15 points with seven rebounds.  Alyssa Benson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Minnetonka H.S.) scored 14 points off the bench, followed by Chelsea Williamson (Boulder, Colo./Boulder H.S.) with 11 and Candice Kohn (Midland, Texas/Midland Christian H.S.) with 10.  Erin Doherty (Denver, Colo./Bishop Machebeuf H.S.) added five and Emily Wood (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) three as well.

Metro State led by 10 at the half at 47-37, and after a UCCS bucket two minutes into the second half, the Roadrunners scored 10 points in a row to build a 57-38 lead and put the game away with 13:30 remaining.

The Roadrunners will be back at home on Friday, Jan. 29, with a 5 p.m. tipoff against Colorado Mines.
