DENVER - No. 17 Metro State rolled over visiting Chadron State 25-13, 25-14, 25-10 on Friday. The Roadrunners improved to 10-4 overall and 5-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSC fell to 2-12 and 1-5.
Friday's match was also Dig For The Cure night to support the fight against breast cancer. Proceeds from the match went to the Susan G. Komen foundation and Sense of Security.
Metro State held the Eagles to a -.119 hitting percentage, a the lowest opponent hitting percentage since holding Colorado State-Pueblo to a Metro State opponent record -.192 hitting percentage on Sept. 19, 1990.
Offensively, Metro State had a solid performance on Friday, hitting .357 as a team, including .431 through the first two sets.
Julie Causseaux (Dumas, Texas/Dumas H.S.) led both teams with 10 kills and had just two errors in 14 attempts for a .571 hitting percentage, also a match high. Setter
Darcy Schwartzman (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest H.S.) dished out 24 set assists, while playing in just the first two sets.
Defensively, the Roadrunners had six team blocks, led by Causseaux and
Lisa Jones (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East H.S.) with three assists each.
Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) led the team with nine digs and Jones added eight.
Metro State jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first set and went on to win 25-13 after hitting .458. Causseaux put down five kills during the first set and
Emily Greenhalgh (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) added four of her eight in the match.
The Roadrunners led 17-5 in the second set after scoring 11 of 12 points with Causseaux and Schwartzman each serving. Metro State hit .407 in the second and held the Eagles to -.143.
The third set was more defensive, though the defensive effort led to another 17-5 lead. CSC was held to a -.184 hitting percentage in the third.
Metro State will host No. 10 Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday at 3 p.m.
