DENVER - The No. 11 Metro State women's soccer team scored two first-half goals en route to a 3-1 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday at home. The Roadrunners improved to 10-3-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the ThunderWolves fell to 4-8-1 and 2-6-1 in the RMAC.
It is the ninth consecutive 10+ win season for the Roadrunners, who have the most wins of any NCAA Division II school since the streak began in 2002.
Becca Medina (Denver, Colo./Heritage H.S.) sent a deep pass from near midfield into the box to Michael' Ann Karas, who fired a shot from the left side for the first goal of the game in the 20th minute.
Medina fed
Nicole Pollack (Englewood, Colo./Englewood H.S.) for another goal just seven minutes later, on a through ball that led to a short breakaway in the box.
The Roadrunners held a 6-3 shot advantage in the first half, but the playing field leveled out and CSU-Pueblo held the ball for much of the second half and had a 7-2 shot advantage after halftime.
However,
Ashley Nemmers (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) scored an insurance goal in the 77th minute, scoring off a cross from
Madison McQuilliams (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.).
The ThunderWolves scored in the 88th minute when Jessa Cook dribbled through two Metro State defenders in the box and scored from the left side into the far corner of the net.
Sarah Tanous (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy H.S.) made her first career start in goal for the Roadrunners and stopped four shots to earn the victory.
Metro State will host No. 6 Fort Lewis at noon on Sunday.
