Offense Picks Back Up in Sweep at Adams State

Box Score

DENVER -
No. 18 Metro State stretched its winning streak to a season-long six matches as the visiting Roadrunners swept Adams State 27-25, 25-13, 25-16.  They improved to 16-5 and 10-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while ASC fell to 7-13 and 4-8.

A night after hitting just .193, the offense found its rhythm again and Metro State hit .300 as a team and had three players reach double figures in kills.  Emily Greenhalgh (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) put away 12 kills, followed by Bri Morley (Parker, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) with 11 and Julie Causseaux (Dumas, Texas/Dumas H.S.) with 10.  Darcy Schwartzman (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest H.S.) got the offense going with 41 set assists.

Metro State had a strong serving night, connecting on seven aces, while ASC had just one.  Morley had three of the aces.

Defensively, Ngoc Phan (Lone Tree, Colo./Cherry Creek H.S.) had 16 digs and Metro State had six team blocks.

The Roadrunners struggled early and trailed 15-10 in the first set.  After running off four straight points with Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) serving to cut the lead to 15-14, Metro State continued its run and tied it at 18-18 after kills by Morley and Mapes.

The Grizzlies took the lead back to two more points, but Metro State answered with four in a row to take a 22-20 lead after a solo block by Causseaux.  However, ASC rallied again with three in a row.  With the score tied 25-25, Causseaux and Morley had back-to-back kills to end the set.

The Roadrunners picked up in the second set where they left off after the first, taking a 7-1 lead with Causseaux serving five points in a row.  Morley had back-to-back aces to give Metro State a 13-4 lead and cap a four-point run and the Roadrunners went on to win 25-13.

Metro State again came out on fire in the third and took a 12-6 lead.  The Roadrunners forced a side out on four of ASC's first five serves.  They held on to take the third 25-16.

Metro State will host UC-Colorado Springs at 7 p.m. on Friday.
