DENVER - The No. 11 Metro State women's soccer team tied No. 6 Fort Lewis 1-1 on Sunday at home behind a first-half goal from freshman
Becca Medina (Denver, Colo./Heritage H.S.). The tie moved the Roadrunners to 10-3-2 overall and 6-3-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while FLC is now 13-1-1 and 9-1-1.
Sara Egbom scored first for the Skyhawks in the 28th minute off a cross from the left side by Megan Striedel.
Medina answered eight minutes later off a free kick from just outside the top of the box following a foul against Egbom.
The two first half goals were all of the scoring, though both teams had chances.
Sarah Tanous (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy H.S.) stopped six shots in her second career start for the Roadrunners, including three in the second half. FLC goalkeeper Christine Schmelzle made seven saves.
Schmelzle made an spectacular diving save up and to her left after a blast from
Aubrey Fondy (Arvada, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) from near the top-right corner of the box after a turnover by the Skyhawks led to a breakaway.
FLC missed a shot from inside the box in the first overtime, but that was the only scoring chance for either team. In the second overtime, Schmelzle stopped a header from
Nicole Pollack (Englewood, Colo./Englewood H.S.) from inside the box after a cross from Fondy. This came moments after a FLC goal was called back for offsides.
