DENVER -
No. 18 Metro State topped UC-Colorado Springs 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 on Friday at home.  The Roadrunners improved to 17-5 and 11-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while UCCS fell to 12-10 and 6-7 in the RMAC.

Setter Darcy Schwartzman (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest H.S.) turned in one of the best performances of her career, dishing out a career-high 64 set assists and helping the Roadrunners hit .305 in the match.  She also had seven digs and two blocks.

Schwartzman helped five Roadrunners reach double figures in kills.  Emily Greenhalgh (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) had 18 kills and hit .382 (18-5-34), falling just two kills shy of a career high.  Bri Morley (Parker, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) put down 17 kills and had two aces.  Anna Mapes (Chaska, Minn./Chaska H.S.) set a career high for a four-set match with 14 kills, hitting .435 (14-4-23).  Julie Causseaux (Dumas, Texas/Dumas H.S.) added 13 kills, also a career high for a four-set match.  Lisa Jones (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East H.S.) rounded out the offense's top performers with 11 kills, while hitting .348 (11-3-23) with eight digs.

Defensively, Ngoc Phan (Lone Tree, Colo./Cherry Creek H.S.) had 16 digs and was perfect in serve-receive.  Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) added 10 digs.

Despite the strong offensive performance, Metro State made a season-high 17 service errors, the most since totaling 18 last year in a five-set win against then-No. 3 West Texas A&M on Sept. 5, 2009.  Metro State had a total of 50 errors on Friday night (27 attack, 17 service, three serve-receive, two ball-handling and one blocking).

Eleven of the Roadrunners' 27 attack errors came in the first set as they hit just .146.  The Roadrunners total 16 errors in the first set, handing the Mountain Lions a vast majority of their points.

After dropping the first frame 25-23, Metro State responded with a dominating set for much of the second.  The Roadrunners hit .348 in the second and committed just 11 errors.  But while holding set point at 24-17, UCCS ran off six straight points and cut the lead to 24-23.  Causseaux finally put down the winning point on a kill.

The Roadrunners jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third, using three UCCS attack errors and two more kills from Causseaux.  Metro State led 17-15, but the Mountain Lions scored four straight to take a 19-17 lead.  The Roadrunners scored eight of the final 11 points to take the set 25-22.

Tied 10-10 in the fourth, Metro State went on a 7-2 run.  Much like the second set, UCCS got hot and took a 21-20 lead after scoring four in a row.  Trailing 23-22, Metro State scored the final three points in kills from Morley and Jones and an attack error on the Mountain Lions.

Metro State will host Colorado Mines at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
