Causseaux's Career Night Leads Roadrunners to Win Over Mines

DENVER -
No. 18 Metro State won 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20 over Colorado Mines on Saturday night at home.  The Roadrunners improved to 18-5 overall and 12-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with their eighth straight win, while Mines dropped to 17-6 overall and 10-4 in the RMAC.

Julie Causseaux (Dumas, Texas/Dumas H.S.) put down a career high 22 kills and hit .475 (22-3-40) to lead the offense.  She also had four blocks, including three solo, along with five digs.  Setter Darcy Schwartzman (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest H.S.) had another strong performance with 58 assists and six digs, helping Metro State hit a season-high .377 in the match.

Bri Morley (Parker, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) had 15 kills and hit .400 (15-5-25).  Emily Greenhalgh (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) had 14 kills and Lisa Jones (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East H.S.) had 12.  Defensively, Ngoc Phan (Lone Tree, Colo./Cherry Creek H.S.) paced the team with 19 digs.

The Roadrunners broke a 7-7 tie in the first set with five of the next six points to lead 12-8.  The Roadrunners maintained that margin for much of the set, hitting .405, while holding Mines to a .216 hitting percentage.

The Orediggers came out firing in the second set and led 10-5 before Metro State rallied.  The Roadrunners tied the set at 16-16 and took their first lead at 17-16 behind a kill from Causseaux, one of her five during the second set.  After Mines tied it with the next point, Metro State scored three straight and held the lead for the rest of the set.

Metro State led 18-17 in the third, but Mines scored five in a row to push the Orediggers to a 25-20 win.

Metro State hit a phenomenal .640 in the fourth set, led by Causseaux connecting on seven kills in eight attempts as the Roadrunners closed out the night on a strong note.

They will travel to No. 9 Nebraska-Kearney on Friday for a 7 p.m. (CDT) match in Kearney.
