GOLDEN, Colo. – No. 18 Metro State swept Colorado Mines on the road, winning 27-25, 25-18, 25-22 on Friday evening. The Roadrunners improved to 12-5 overall and 6-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Orediggers fell to 13-4 overall and 6-2.
Darcy Schwartzman (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest H.S.) dished out 40 assists, helping the offense hit .218.
Bri Morley (Parker, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) had 18 kills to pace the attackers, hitting .353 (18-4-34).
Emily Greenhalgh (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) added 10 kills.
Defensively,
Ngoc Phan (Lone Tree, Colo./Cherry Creek H.S.) had 18 digs. The Roadrunners blocked six attempts, led by Schwartzman and
Julie Causseaux (Dumas, Texas/Dumas H.S.), who were each a part of four blocks.
The Roadrunners trailed 23-19 in the first set, but rallied to win 27-25. They fought off two set points to tie the match at 24-24 and back-to-back kills by Morley and Greenhalgh ended the set.
The second set was all Metro State early as it took a 5-0 lead and never looked back. The Orediggers never got closer than two points the rest of the set and hit just .030, while the Roadrunners hit .289.
Tied 22-22 in the third, Metro State scored three straight points to end the match as Morley had consecutive kills to bring set point at 24-22 and Mapes and Morley blocked CSM's final attempt of the night.
Metro State will play at UC-Colorado Springs on Saturday at 7 p.m.
