Roadrunners Tie Highlands on the Road

Box Score

LAS VEGAS, N.M. -
No. 3 Metro State tied New Mexico Highlands 1-1 in Las Vegas, N.M., on Sunday.  The tie moved the Roadrunners to 5-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, while NMHU is now 3-2-1 and 1-0-1 in the RMAC.

Aleah DeGeneres (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) got the Roadrunners on the board early as she scored unassisted 4:27 into the game.

Highlands evened the score in the 51st minute as Tierra Saban scored.

That was all of the scoring the rest of the game.  Roadrunner goalkeeper Alee Seehausen (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View H.S.) preserved the tie with a save just 26 seconds before time expired in regulation and made another save in the first overtime.  For the game, she stopped six shots.

Metro State was out-shot 15-13.  It was just the second time since 2008 the Roadrunners were out-shot.  Regis University held a 14-12 edge on shots in a 5-1 Metro State win on Nov. 6, 2009.

The tie was just the fifth RMAC game Metro State has failed to win since 2002.  Metro State tied Colorado Mines twice in 2008.  In 2007, the Roadrunners had an NCAA record 72-game conference unbeaten streak end with a 1-1 tie against Fort Lewis on Sept. 7 and then fell 1-0 to Colorado Mines on Sept. 21.  Those three ties and one loss were the only times Metro State failed to win and RMAC game since 2002 when the Roadrunners had a pair of ties.

Metro State will look to rebound with a win on Wednesday when it hosts Regis University at 1 p.m.
