Women's Basketball Streak Snapped at Fort Lewis

Box Score

DURANGO –
No. 14 Metro State had its school record 15-game winning streak snapped at No. 5 Fort Lewis on Friday evening, falling 73-46 in Durango, Colo. The Roadrunners dropped to 15-1 overall and 11-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while FLC improved to 16-1 and 11-1. Both teams are now tied for first place in the conference.

No Metro State player reached double digits in scoring, the first time since 2008 that has happened. Brandi Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) led the Roadrunners with nine points off the bench. Cassondra Bratton (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.), Jasmine Cervantes (Johnstown, Colo./Berthoud H.S.) and Alyssa Benson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Minnetonka H.S.) each had eight points.

Metro State was outrebounded for the first time all season as the Skyhawks held a 36-29 advantage on the boards. The Roadrunners entered the game leading all of NCAA Division II in rebounding margin.

Metro State also committed 24 turnovers and shot just 32.0 percent, a season-low. Conversely, FLC hit 50 percent from the floor, including 5-of-13 from the outside.

The Roadrunners faced their first double digit deficit of the season at 20-9 with 9:47 left in the first half. FLC took a 32-24 lead into half behind nine points by Dana Schreibvogel.

Metro State never cut the lead to single digits in the second half after an early FLC bucket, and the final score of 73-47 was the largest deficit of the game.

Schreibvogel led all scorers with 22 points and had eight rebounds as she hit 7-of-12 from the floor and 8-of-9 at the line.

Fort Lewis extended its home winning streak to 40 games.

Metro State will travel to Adams State for a 6 p.m. game on Saturday.
