CHADRON, Neb. - No. 9 Metro State recovered to win 19-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-17 after dropping the first set at Chadron State on Saturday evening. The win improved the Roadrunners to 13-3 overall and 5-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSC fell to 4-13 and 0-7.
Metro State fell behind 14-4 in the first set. The Roadrunners fought off set point five times at 24-14, but finally fell at 25-19.
Trailing 9-7 in the second, Metro State scored five in a row and 12 of the next 13 points to lead 19-10.
Metro State again fell behind in the third set at 7-4, but pulled together another five-point run and never trailed again. CSC managed to tie the score at 12-12, but another five-point run led to a 17-12 lead after
Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) exploded for three kills during the run.
The Roadrunnres came out on fire in the fourth, leading 9-1, including seven consecutive points with
Ngoc Phan (Lone Tree, Colo./Cherry Creek H.S.) serving. CSC never cut the lead to less than four points.
Bri Morley (Parker, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) led Metro State with 20 kills and also had 10 digs, hitting .486. Heath and
Emily Greenhalgh (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) each had 11 kills. Heath's total was a season high, as were here eight digs. Phan had a team-high 14 digs.
Darcy Schwartzman (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest H.S.) assisted on 35 kills and
Vanessa Gemignani (Colorado Springs/Doherty H.S.) on eight, helping the Roadrunners hit .270 as a team.
Metro State will host UC-Colorado Springs on Friday at 7 p.m.
