DENVER -
No. 18 Metro State recovered from a hafltime deficit to take a second-half lead, but gave up two goals in the final 21 minutes to fall 3-2 to Regis on Wednesday at home.  The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 7-5-1 overall and 5-4-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Rangers improved to 8-2-1 and 5-2-1.

Metro State failed to capitalize on two chances in the first 10 minutes.  Scott Grode (Gilbert, Ariz./Basha H.S.) missed a penalty kick at 5:46 after he was fouled in the box on a scoring attempt.  Three minutes later, Andrew Mejia (Littleton, Colo./Mullen H.S.) missed wide right at an open net from inside the box after Regis goalkeeper Scott Brown overran the play.

The Rangers were given a penalty kick at 38:49 and Logan Miller converted for the 1-0 lead.

Grode evened the score early in the second half, floating a header over backup goalkeeper Ben Sabados after taking a long pass from Chris Yoder (Gilbert, Ariz./Mesquite H.S.) in the box.  Mejia then put the Roadrunners in front 2-1 at 58:19, heading in Yoder's corner kick.

But Regis responded with two more goals.  Stephen Reed sent a long free kick into the box from near midfield and Miller connected after Metro State goalkeeper Shailer Thomas (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington H.S.) was unable to successfully deflect the ball away at 69:51.

Ten minutes later, Jordan Spring scored on a header, again off a free kick from Reed, for the game-winning goal.

Mejia gave the Roadrunners one final scoring chance with less than two minutes left.  He blasted a rocket on goal from the top-left corner of the box, but Sabados dove to deflect the ball away, stopping a sure goal.

The Rangers were twice able to capitalize on a season-high 17 fouls called against Metro State, compared to just nine on Regis.  Metro State entered the game with the second-fewest fouls in the RMAC.

Metro State will travel to No. 1 Fort Lewis on Friday.
