DENVER - Megan Woodworth scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to give No. 23 Colorado Mines a 2-1 win at No. 25 Metro State on Friday. The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 12-5-1 overall and 8-5-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSM improved to 13-2-2 and 9-2-2.
Woodworth dribbled past two defenders on the left wing and scored from 15 yards out for the game-tying goal at 80:36. Six minutes later, her header off Kenzie King's cross from the left corner sailed into the net for the game-winner.
Metro State took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a header by
Nicole Pollack (Englewood, Colo./Englewood H.S.) off
Hayley Marsh (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.)'s free kick from just inside midfield at 22:48.
The Orediggers, who possessed the ball very little in the first 70 minutes, nearly tied the game just eight minutes after Pollack's goal as Erin Onat's long shot from the right wing hit the far post.
The Roadrunners had several chances to add to the lead, including
Aubrey Fondy (Arvada, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.)'s shot from the left side of the box just seconds before halftime.
After Mines took the lead,
Kelci Newlin (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.) had a point-blank shot from the center of the box, but missed just high of the net in an attempt to tie the game following a corner kick.
Each team's goalkeeper made two saves.
Metro State outshot CSM 16-9 in the game.
Metro State will wait to find out its opponent for the RMAC Tournament following the conclusion of the rest of the conference's games on Sunday.
