Morley and Quijano's big nights push volleyball past No. 25 Regis

DENVER -
Bri Morley (Parker, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) and Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) each put down career highs in kills as No. 11 Metro State edged No. 25 Regis 25-19, 27-29, 25-22, 22-25, 15-5 on the road on Tuesday night.  The Roadrunners improved to 21-5 overall and 13-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Rangers fell to 20-8 and 11-6.

Morley tied a career high with 24 kills and hit .315, while adding 18 digs on the defensive side.  Quijano topped her previous high of 15 with 17 kills, hitting .412.

Emily Greenhalgh (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) also had a big night with 16 kills and a .244 hitting percentage.

Julie Causseaux (Dumas, Texas/Dumas H.S.) neared a double-double with nine kills and eight blocks.

Darcy Schwartzman (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest H.S.) took over sole possession of the setter possession in the final three sets and dished out a season-high 59 assists and also tied a career high with five blocks.

Defensively, Ngoc Phan (Lone Tree, Colo./Cherry Creek H.S.) led the team with 23 digs, while Savannah Garcia (Platteville, Colo./Valley H.S.) and Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) each had 10.  However, Phan also had four serve-receiving errors as Regis had seven aces.

The Roadrunners jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first set, holding the Rangers to a .034 hitting percentage.

In the second set, it was the opposite start for Metro State.  Regis led 8-2 and 15-8, but the Roadrunners stormed back to hold set point at 24-22.  Trailing 27-26, Regis ran off three straight points to even the match.

The Rangers led 15-12 in the third scored four straight points with Garcia serving to take a 16-15 lead.  Greenhalgh put down back-to-back kills to end the set after Regis cut a three-point lead to 23-22.

Regis again got off to a dominating start in the fourth, leading 13-6.  Again, Metro State was able to come back and cut the deficit to one at 22-21 before the Rangers scored three of the final four points.

After Regis scored the first point, Metro State ran off five in a row with Causseaux serving and ran away with the set, leading 10-3 and 13-4.  The Rangers hit .000 in the deciding set, while Metro State was on fire at .500.

Metro State will wrap up the regular season on Friday at home against Colorado Christian at 7 p.m.
