Box Score CHADRON, Neb. – No. 3 Metro State did not allow a field goal for the first 11 minutes and 14 seconds as the visiting Roadrunners defeated Chadron State 71-43 in Chadron, Neb., on Saturday night. Metro State improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSC fell to 1-7 and 1-3.
Caley Dow (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe H.S.) broke the school record for field goal percentage (minimum seven made field goals), going 9-for-9 from the floor and scoring a career-high 19 points.
Alyssa Benson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Minnetonka H.S.) and
Jenessa Burke (Aurora, Colo./Highlands Ranch H.S.) also added 15 points each.
Benson held the previous record for field goal percentage at .900, going 9-for-10 against Colorado Mesa on Jan. 29 last season.
Jasmine Cervantes (Johnstown, Colo./Berthoud H.S.) scored 13 points and had 11 assists to go with eight rebounds. Burke also had eight boards and
Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) had seven.
Metro State shot just 39.4 percent from the floor, but held the Eagles to 29.4 percent and had a +10 rebounding advantage (46-36). The Roadrunners were also +10 on turnovers, forcing 18 and committing a season-low eight.
Dow scored Metro State's first 11 points of the game as the Roadrunners jumped out to a 22-1 lead. The Eagles did not hit their first basket until 8:46 was left in the first half when a 3-pointer by Lexi Smidt made the score 22-4. CSC missed its first 12 shots of the game and committed 10 turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the game.
Metro's largest lead of the first half was 27 when two free throws by Burke pushed the lead to 39-12 with 24 seconds left in the half. Dow scored 15 points on 7-of-7 shooting in the first half, already passing her season high in scoring. Burke had 11 off the bench to go with seven rebounds.
CSC shot just 18.2 percent in the first half, making 4-of-22 from the floor. It was the lowest point total and shooting percentage for a Metro State opponent this season in a half.
Metro State held its largest lead of the game at 54-19 with 13:31 left in the game.
The Roadrunners will play at Regis next Saturday before enjoying 12 days off.
