CHADRON, Neb. - The No. 12 Metro State women's basketball team had an excellent all-around performance in a dominating 68-44 victory at Chadron State on Friday night. It was the sixth straight win for the Roadrunners, who improved to 21-1 overall and 17-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSC fell to 5-17 and 3-15.
Metro State was hitting on all cylinders, shooting 46.2 percent from the floor, holding a 43-34 rebounding advantage and committing just 12 turnovers. The Roadrunners held CSC to just 29.6 percent shooting and forced 15 turnovers. It was the third time this season Metro State has held an opponent under 30 percent.
Eleven different players scored for the Roadrunners, led by
Jasmine Cervantes (Johnstown, Colo./Berthoud H.S.) with 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Cassondra Bratton (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) scored nine points and had a team-high seven rebounds.
Brandi Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) poured in eight off the bench and
Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.),
Alyssa Benson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Minnetonka H.S.) and
Candice Kohn (Midland, Texas/Midland Christian H.S.) each had seven.
Tawny Drexler (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.) and Amy Andrus each scored six.
Emily Wood (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) scored just four points, but had a career-high seven assists.
Metro State never trailed in the game and led by as many as 24 points, maintaining a double digit lead for the final 26 minutes of the game.
The Roadrunners will continue their road trip with a 6 p.m. (CT) game at Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday.
