Women's basketball holds fourth straight opponent to low shooting percentage in rout of Adams

Box Score DENVER - Fifth-ranked Metro State extended its record home-winning streak to 26 games, topping Adams State 63-39 on Saturday evening at the Auraria Event Center. The Roadrunners improved to 16-1 overall and 12-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while ASC fell to 6-11 and 5-8.

The Roadrunners shot 45 percent for the game, while holding ASC to 32 percent, the fourth straight game they have held an opponent under 35 percent. Metro also enjoyed a 43-29 rebounding margin and committed just nine turnovers.

Jenessa Burke (Aurora, Colo./Highlands Ranch H.S.) led Metro with 11 points off the bench, and grabbed  a game-high nine rebounds. Emily Wood (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) added 10 points as both players shot 5-of-9 from the floor.

Jasmine Cervantes (Johnstown, Colo./Berthoud H.S.) provided eight points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, and Candice Kohn (Midland, Texas/Midland Christian H.S.) had eight points. Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) added seven.

Nine different players logged at least 12 minutes in the game for Metro.

Metro State's bench combined to shoot 9-of-14 (.643) in the first half, outscoring ASC's bench 21-4, as the Roadrunners led 33-18 at half. Metro led by five points with 8:03 left, but outscored the Grizzlies 20-10 the rest of the half, shooting 8-for-12 (.667) during that stretch.

Wood led Metro with eight first-half points and Kohn added seven.

The Roadrunners broke the game open in the first five minutes of the second half, building a 44-21 lead after a steal and layup by Cervantes with 14:41 to go.

Metro led by as many as 28 points in the second half.

Chloe Cable and Caitlin Boal led the Grizzlies with 12 points each.

Metro State will hit the road next weekend, traveling to Western State (8-10, 7-5 RMAC) on Friday and Colorado Mesa (8-8, 6-6 RMAC) on Saturday.
