Box Score GUNNISON, Colo. - Fourth-ranked Metro State rallied from a five-point deficit with 7:52 left to win 73-67 at Western State on Friday night in Gunnison, Colo. The Roadrunners improved to 17-1 overall and 13-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while WSC dropped to 9-11 and 8-6.

Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) hit a jumper with 7:04 left to start the comeback, and then hit two free throws on the following trip down the floor to trim the lead to one. Her sister
Brandi Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) scored on a baseline jumper for a 58-57 lead with 5:03 left.
The Mountaineers held a one-point lead at the 4:43 mark, but it was their final lead of the game.
Brandi Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.)'s fastbreak layup with 3:50 to play put Metro up 61-59.
Valencia hit the biggest shot of the game with 1:14 to go, burying a 3-pointer from the left wing as the shot clock was expiring, putting the Roadrunners in front for good to break a 65-65 tie.
Alyssa Benson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Minnetonka H.S.) and
Caley Dow (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe H.S.) combined to hit 3-of-4 at the line in the final minute to seal the win.
A season-high five different Roadrunners scored in double figures, led by Benson with 13 points off the bench. She hit 4-of-7 from the outside and had two assists. Both Valencia sisters scored 11 points, as did
Jasmine Cervantes (Johnstown, Colo./Berthoud H.S.), and
Candice Kohn (Midland, Texas/Midland Christian H.S.) also scored 10. Cervantes and
Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) each had double-doubles as Valencia pulled down 13 boards and Cervantes had 12.
Dow also had eight points and nine rebounds and
Emily Wood (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) scored seven.
The Roadrunners dug themselves a hole early in the first half, trailing 15-8 just eight minutes in. However, they slowly climbed back in and tied the game at 27-27 on a 3-pointer by Benson with 3:51 left in the half and went into the intermission tied 31-31.
Metro State committed a season-high 15 first-half turnovers, but stayed in the game by outrebounding the Mountaineers 24-17 and holding them to 35.5 percent shooting.
The Roadrunners committed a season-high 23 turnovers, but outrebounded WSC 51-29 and shot 42.2 percent from the floor, including 6-of-15 from the outside.
Trujillo led the Mountaineers with 21 points on 7-of-17 shooting.
Metro State will travel to Colorado Mesa for a 5:30 p.m. game on Saturday.
