Volleyball: Roadrunners pull through for four-set win

Box Score GUNNISON, Colo. - No. 20 Metro State held on for a 25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 25-12 win at Western State Colorado University on Friday. The Roadrunners improved to 12-6 overall and 7-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while WSCU fell to 1-17 and 0-10 in the RMAC.

Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) led MSU with 15 kills and hit .310, while Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) provided 13 kills and Amy Wong (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium H.S.) had 12. It was Wong's seventh double-double of the season as she also provided 10 digs.

Defensively, Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) led the way with 19 digs, while Tammy King (Colorado Springs/Liberty H.S.) had 11 and Garcia matched Wong with 10.

Audri Marrs (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.) led the team with seven blocks and also had seven kills. Heath also had six block assists.

Vanessa Gemignani (Colorado Springs/Doherty H.S.) assisted on 51 kills and helped the Roadrunners.

Heath provided back-to-back kills and helped MSU scored the final three points of the first set to break away from a 22-21 lead.

The Roadrunners fell behind 14-6 in the second set and were unable to recover.

In the third set, Metro jumped out to a 13-7 lead and held on despite the Mountaineers cutting the lead to 17-16.

Metro again pulled out to a 13-7 lead in the fourth and this time maintained a wide margin on the scoreboard in the 25-12 win.

The Roadrunners will play at No. 24 Adams State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
