Box Score DENVER- A late-game mistake by UC-Colorado Springs proved the difference as Metro State defeated UCCS 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in Denver on Senior Day for the Roadrunners. The lone goal was scored five minutes into the overtime period on an own goal by the Mountain Lions.
Metro State, which dominated most of the game, was unable to capitalize on any of its opportunities throughout the game. The Roadrunners outshot the Mountain Lions 8-1 in the first half and 19-10 on the day.
In the second half, the scoreless affair continued as the intensity picked up for both sides. In the second half, the fouls began to pile up as the Mountain Lions picked up 10 fouls and the Roadrunners picked up 11 fouls.
The second half ended with no score from either side. Just five minutes into the first overtime period, the Mountain Lions scored an own goal to give the Roadrunners a 1-0 victory. The own goal came after MSU senior
Aubrey Fondy (Arvada, Colo./Faith Christian H.S.) charged up the right side with the ball and shot the ball on goal. However, when the defender tried clear the ball, it was deflected into the Mountain Lions net to give the Roadrunners the victory.
Jordan Simkins (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman H.S.) had two saves on the game and the victory increased her record to 12-4-2 on the season.
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Wednesday when they will host Colorado Mesa in the first round of the RMAC tournament at noon. The Roadrunners earned the No. 3 seed and CMU is the No. 6 seed.
