Box Score SILVER CITY, N.M. - Seventh-ranked Metro State moved one game closer to its second consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship on Friday, winning 77-42 at Western New Mexico. A win on Saturday by the Roadrunners clinches a share of the regular season conference championship after Colorado Mines upset No. 10 Fort Lewis on Friday, putting Metro 1.5 games ahead of the Skyhawks in the standings.

Metro State improved its record to 22-2 overall and 18-2 in the RMAC, while WNMU fell to 0-23 and 0-20.

Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) led the Roadrunners with 12 points and had six rebounds and three assists. Jenessa Burke (Aurora, Colo./Highlands Ranch H.S.) added 10 points off the bench.

Jasmine Cervantes (Johnstown, Colo./Berthoud H.S.) reached double digits in rebounding for the third time in the past four games, pulling down a game-high 11 boards as Metro outrebounded WNMU 50-28. Cervantes also scored five points, making her only field goal attempt and 3-of-4 at the line, and had five assists, four steals and three blocked shots.

Emily Wood (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) and Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) poured in nine points each, and Candice Kohn (Midland, Texas/Midland Christian H.S.) added eight.

Metro State shot 50 percent from the floor and had 24 assists on 31 baskets, while forcing 18 turnovers and scoring 19 second-chance points.

The Roadrunners used a 9-0 run to break a 10-10 tie in the first half, and went into halftime leading 36-17.

A 23-7 run in the second half gave Metro its largest lead of the game at 68-29 with 6:15 left.

For the game, the Mustangs shot just 27.3 percent, the seventh time this season a Roadrunners opponent has shot under 30 percent.

Morgan Wohltman led WNMU with 10 points.
