Volleyball: Metro survives at CCU to win in four behind another career high from Heath

Box Score LAKEWOOD, Colo. - For the second night in a row, No. 10 Metro State's Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) put down a career high in kills, this time leading the Roadrunners to a 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22 win at Colorado Christian on Friday evening in Lakewood. The Roadrunners improved to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CCU fell to 9-4 and 1-3.

After finishing with 17 kills on Friday in a four-set loss at No. 23 Colorado Mines, Heath pounded down 19 and hit .567 on Saturday with just two errors in 30 attempts. She also had four blocks.

Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) and Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) also each had 11 kills and Quijano hit .450 as well.

Defensively the Roadrunners were led by Tammy King (Colorado Springs/Liberty H.S.) with nine digs, while Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) and Savannah Garcia (Platteville, Colo./Valley H.S.) each had eight. Audri Marrs (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.) led the team with six blocks.

As a team, MSU hit .273 in the match. Vanessa Gemignani (Colorado Springs/Doherty H.S.) played the first two sets and had 22 assists, while Betty Van Lith (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle H.S.) took over in the third set and had 18 assists and six digs.

The Roadrunners hit .341 in the first set and held CCU to .226 to pull away with the victory. Metro was abused by CCU's middle attack in the second as two middle blockers combined for 10 kills in the second.

Trailing 15-10 in the third set, Metro rallied to win, holding the Cougars to just a .097 attack percentage. After a controversial point that would have give CCU a 16-10 lead was changed to a replay, MSU responded with 10 of the next 12 points to lead 20-17 and the Roadrunners held on after holding the Cougars to a .097 attack percentage.

Metro came through defensively again in the fourth, limiting CCU to a .091 attack percentage. Heath had seven kills in nine attempts in the fourth as well.

Metro State will host No. 18 Regis at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
