Volleyball: Rangers clip Roadrunners in four

Box Score DENVER - In a seesaw match that saw two sets with 16 ties and at least six lead changes, No. 14 Metro State fell to No. 23 Regis University 19-25, 31-29, 25-21, 25-19 at Auraria Event Center on Tuesday Night. With the loss the Roadrunners fell to 8-5 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. Regis improved to 9-6 and 3-2 in conference play.

The first set was tied at 12 apiece when Daleah Whitaker (Denver/Lakewood H.S.) killed three straight points and helped the Roadrunners cruise to victory in the first set.

The second set was a back-and-fourth epic that was finally finished after 60 total points. Both teams hit over .300 in the set and saw seven different players from both teams score at least four kills.

Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.)'s five kills in the third set weren't enough to overcome a team hitting percentage of only .175. Metro State had the set tied at 19 when the Rangers finally pulled away to win the set 25-21.

The fourth set was all Regis as Metro was only able to hit .026 for the set.  The Roadrunners were tied at 12 again when they lost three straight points followed by three straight errors. The eight run outburst was too much for the Roadrunners to overcome as they lost the set and the match for the second time in their last three matches.

Daleah Whitaker (Denver/Lakewood H.S.) was the most efficient offensive player for the Roadrunners in a tough match. She had seven kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Heath also had 18 kills and hit .244 and Amy Wong (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium H.S.) chipped in with 12 kills and 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the year.

Metro State actually out-dug Regis 76-75. Four Roadrunners had double digit digs in the match led by Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.)'s 19 digs.

Heath had six solo blocks, accounting for half of the team's 12 blocks. Audri Marrs (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.) had five block assists.

Metro State will face UC-Colorado Springs on Friday night at home at 7 p.m.
