Women's soccer: Price's goal in 83rd minute gives Metro 1-0 win over Fort Lewis

Box Score DENVER - Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland H.S.)'s header in the 83rd minute proved the decisive goal as Metro State upended Fort Lewis 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Auraria Field.  The win was the first for Metro State over Fort Lewis since 2009.  The Roadrunners were winless in the past six games against the Skyhawks.

The first half was a defensive effort from both sides as only four shots on goal were attempted combined.  Brandi Farley (Colorado Springs/Pine Creek H.S.) had a scoring opportunity in the 22 for the Roadrunners when she was able to get behind the Skyhawks defense and placed a shot on goal from outside the box, however Amanda Raso for the Skyhawks made a diving save to prevent the goal.

Two minutes later, Jordan Simkins (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman H.S.) saw her first major action of the first half as she made two saves within one minute.  However, the first half ended with no more major action on the offensive end to make the score 0-0 at the intermission.

In the second half, the Roadrunners had a couple of scoring chances but were unable to capitalize on any of them as several shots were just high.  Finally in the 83rd minute, the Roadrunners were able to capitalize when Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland H.S.) headed in a deep cross just over the goalie's head from Brittany Cito (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge H.S.).  The goal which came from a cross near the right sideline was Price's ninth of the season.

Jordan Simkins (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman H.S.) had four saves for the Roadrunners while Skyhawks goalie Amanda Raso had three saves.  The win improved Simkins' record as goalie to 6-2-1 on the season.  The loss dropped Raso's record to 4-2-1 on the season.

The Roadrunners will be back in action on Sunday when they host Colorado Mines at noon.  The Skyhawks will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Colorado Christian at 11 a.m.
