Women's soccer: Price again provides the difference in fourth straight win

Box Score DENVER - Metro State won its fourth straight game on Sunday afternoon, defeating Colorado School of Mines 1-0.  Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland H.S.) provided the game winning goal in the 47th minute as the Roadrunners improved to 7-2-1 on the season.

Metro State started the game much more aggressive than it did on Friday and had several scoring opportunities but was unable to connect early.  One of the better attempts for the Roadrunner came in the 14th minute when Price attempted a bicycle kick inside the Orediggers' box.  But Orediggers goalkeeper Jayln Yates made a leaping save to preserve the score at 0-0.  Tess Hagenlock (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman H.S.) also had several scoring opportunities in the first half, however, was unable to connect on any of her chances.

Shursteen Sharpe (Westminster, Colo./Mountain Range H.S.) also provided an instant spark for the Roadrunners when she entered the game in the 26th minute.  She earned a penalty kick in the 30th minute after getting taken down in the box on a breakaway; but Price missed wide on the attempt for the Roadrunners.

Even though the Roadrunners held a 10-6 advantage for shots in the first half, the score remained scoreless.  However, MSU carried its first half energy into the second half and was finally able to capitalize in the 47th minute when Price scored her 10th goal of the year.  Price stole the ball in the Orediggers' half of the field and fired a shot from 25 yards away past Yates.

Price's goal ended up being the difference as the Roadrunners were able to hold off a late charge from the Orediggers in the final few minutes.  Jordan Simkins (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman H.S.) had four saves for the Roadrunners in goal while Yates also had four saves for the Orediggers.  The win improved Simkins record to 7-2-1 on the season while the loss dropped Yates to 6-4-0 on the season.

Then Roadrunners will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Colorado Christian.  The Orediggers will be back in action on Friday when they host Regis at 5 p.m.
