Box Score DENVER - Metro State continued their win streak as they defeated Western New Mexico on Saturday night 85-37. MSU's sixth consecutive win increased the its record to 8-4 overall on the season and 6-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The loss dropped the Mustangs' to 1-11 overall on the season and 0-8 in RMAC play.
Metro State was led by 23 points from
Emily Wood (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.). Also scoring in double figures for the Roadrunners were
Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) and
Cassie Lambrecht (Colorado Springs/Golden H.S.) with 14 apiece.
Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) also added 12 points to help lead the Metro State to a 48 point victory.
Tai Jensen (Troy, Idaho/Troy H.S.) added nine and
Kya DeGarmo (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado H.S.) had seven.
Wood's 23 points were a career high as she shot 8-of-11 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from the outside. She also tied a career high with eight rebounds and added five assists and two blocked shots. DeGarmo assisted on seven baskets, tying Valencia for a game high in that category. Valencia also had five steals.
The Roadrunners came out of the gate at the start of the game strong as they started the game on a 9-2 run. Metro State was able to maintain their intensity as it continued to dominate the scoring in the first half in route to a 42-18 halftime advantage.
In the second half, Metro State was again able to come out strong as it pushed the lead to 44 with a 22-4 run. Metro State never led by less than 42 points for the rest of the game as it was able to maintain the pace of the game until the final buzzer.
Overall for the game Metro State shot 60.4 percent from the field including 44.4 percent from behind the arc. The hot shooting from the Roadrunners was their third-highest field goal percentage in school history.
Western New Mexico was led by Jelesia Gray with her six points and four rebounds.
Metro State will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Colorado Christian at 5 p.m.
