Men's Soccer: Metro State wins third game in a row over Fort Lewis in 3-1 victory

Box Score DENVER- Metro State defeated Fort Lewis 3-1 on Friday afternoon for its third straight victory over the Skyhawks.  The win increased the Roadrunners' record to 6-2-3 overall and 4-1-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The loss dropped the Skyhawks to 6-4-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the RMAC.

Scoring for the Roadrunners were Kevin Pocalyko (Longmont, Colo./Longmont H.S.) in the 44th minute, Danny Arrubla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton H.S.) in the 72nd minute, and Makir Oropeza (Denver, Colo./C.E.C. Middle College) in the 82nd minute.  On the defensive end, Andrew Mejia (Littleton, Colo./Mullen H.S.) had four defensive saves while Keegan Hand (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley H.S.) earned the win with two saves.

In the first half, the Roadrunners were not able to do much offensively as they did not have their first shot of the game until the 32nd minute of the game.

However, despite not attempting very many shots in the first half, the strong efforts on the defensive end allowed the Roadrunners to keep the game scoreless until the 44th minute when Pocalyko scored his first goal of the season.  Pocalyko's goal was assisted by Carlos Mendez (Denver, Colo./Broomfield H.S.) and Brock Labertew (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon H.S.).

In the first half, the Skyhawks outshot the Roadrunners 11-2.

In the second half, the Roadrunners were able to add a second goal when Arrubla scored his fifth goal of the season in the 72nd minute.  Arrubla's shot was from well outside the top of the box and was shot off the assist from Mejia.

Just when it started to look like the Roadrunners were going to be able to comfortably close out the game, the Skyhawks got on the board in the 80th minute when Zac Lawrence scored off the pass from Austin Derksen.

Metro State answered just over two minutes later to clinch the game as Oropeza scored his second goal of the season in the 82nd minute.  Oropeza's goal, which was a header, was assisted off the header from Nolan Glivar (Colorado Springs/Sand Creek H.S.) off the cross from Arrubla.

Overall for the game, the Skyhawks outshot the Roadrunners 24-15 but tied in the category of shots on goal with seven for both sides.

Metro State will be back in action on Sunday when it hosts Adams State at 2:30 p.m.
