Box Score DENVER - Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) had a career-high 20 kills to rally Metro State to a 23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-16, 15-5 win over Colorado State-Pueblo on Thursday night at the Auraria Event Center. The Roadrunners improved to 10-7 overall and 6-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CSUP fell to 7-11 and 4-5.
Metro State has not lost to the ThunderWolves since 1999, extending its winning streak to 15 matches in the series. In addition to extending the streak, it was the first time the Roadrunners rallied to win since 2011.
Haun hit .250 (20-8-48) and was outstanding in the final two sets, hitting .600 (10-1-15) during that span. She had her sixth career double-double with 10 digs and added three aces.
Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) was also excellent with 17 kills and a .282 (17-6-39) hitting percentage.Â
Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) put down 12 kills and
Vasati Fiatoa (Las Vegas, Nev./Bonanza H.S.) had a career-high 10, hitting .316 (10-4-19).
Betty Van Lith (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle H.S.) was spectacular at setter, playing the final three-and-a-half sets and putting out 39 assists. She also had six kills in just 10 attempts. Metro State hit .364 in the final three sets.
Defensively, libero
Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) led the way with 23 digs and was perfect 22-for-22 in serve-receive. The Roadrunners also had 13 blocks. Fiatoa had six block assists and
Kylee Hoagland (Mead, Colo./Skyline H.S.) had five block assists.
MSU Denver struggled through the first two sets, hitting just .141 and making a switch in setters midway through the second. The Roadrunners led 11-9 in the second before a six-point ThunderWolves run allowed CSUP to take control.
Metro State responded in the third with five total blocks, outhitting the ThunderWolves .200 to .083. A six-point run gave the Roadrunners a 17-7 lead.
The momentum continued into the fourth set as Metro State jumped out to a 6-0 lead. The Roadrunners continued to cruise, outhitting CSUP .438 to .031 in the frame.
Haun erupted for four kills during a 6-2 run to start the fifth for Metro State. She finished with five kills in the fifth set, helping the team hit .625.
For the match, Metro State hit .254 and held CSUP to .147, including .062 during the final three sets.
The Roadrunners will be back in action Friday night against Western State at 7 p.m. It will be Dig Pink night, the annual fundraiser for breast cancer research.
