Women's soccer: Roadrunners suffer first loss of the season

Box Score DURANGO, Colo. - No. 10 Metro State suffered its first loss of the 2013 season on Friday night, falling 2-1 at Fort Lewis in Durango, Colo. The game started after over two hours of lightning delays. The Roadrunners fell to 11-1-3 overall and 9-1-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with the loss, while the Skyhawks improved to 12-3-0 and 8-3-0.

The two goals allowed were a season-worst for the Roadrunners.

The game was fairly even throughout the first half until FLC scored at 38:08. Sam Weiss scored from 16 yards out after a pass from Jordan Hix through Metro State's midfield.

The Skyhawks jumped on the board again early in the second half at 51:01 as Emma Cannis scored off Shea Haycock's corner kick.

Fort Lewis controlled play until around the 70th minute when Metro State got things back under control. At 82:47, the Roadrunners were awarded a penalty kick. Becca Medina (Denver, Colo./Heritage H.S.)'s PK missed off the post, but she was able to score off the rebound to cut the deficit in half. However, that was the final shot of the game for either team.

Karisa Fernandez (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake H.S.) made five saves for the Roadrunners as FLC outshot the Roadrunners 14-11.

Metro State will host New Mexico Highlands at noon on Sunday.
