Box Score

COLORADO SPRINGS - Metro State's volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak with a 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 25-22 win at UC-Colorado Springs on Friday night. The win improved the Roadrunners to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while UCCS fell to 7-6 and 3-2.

It wasn't an easy night for the Roadrunners offensively, but they made up for it with strong defense, holding the Mountain Lions to a .105 hitting percentage with the aid of 10 team blocks.

Also a big part of the defensive effort was Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.), who had a team-high 24 digs. Savannah Garcia (Platteville, Colo./Valley H.S.) added 18 digs, one shy of a career high, and Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) had 15. That trio helped the Roadrunners to a season-high 77 digs.

It was Haun's fifth career double-double as she added 14 kills.

Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) put down 18 kills and Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) added 16. Heath and Kylee Hoagland (Mead, Colo./Skyline H.S.) each had four total blocks.

Setter Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) had a season-high 48 assists, helping the team to a .151 hitting percentage.

Trailing 10-3 in the first set, MSU Denver used a seven-point run to take an 11-10 lead. The Roadrunners had to overcome another deficit late in the set with a big run, scoring six in a row to take a 21-16 lead after trailing 16-15.

Metro State led 22-20 in the second before UCCS scored the final five points to split the match.

The Roadrunners again rallied in the third after trailing 17-11, scoring seven of the final nine to go ahead in the match.

MSU Denver had a large lead early in the fourth, jumping ahead 11-5. But the Mountain Lions came back to tie the set at 22-22. Kills from Quijano and Haun, followed by a UCCS attack error gave the Roadrunners the victory.

Metro State will travel to New Mexico Highlands for a 7 p.m. match on Friday.
