Box Score DENVER - Metro State hit .314 as a team to sweep Black Hills State 25-17, 25-21, 25-11 on Friday night in Denver. The Roadrunners improved to 16-10 overall and 12-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. BHSU fell to 8-20 and 3-15.
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) led the team with nine kills and had five digs.
Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) added eight.
Vasati Fiatoa (Las Vegas, Nev./Bonanza H.S.) and
Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) each had seven. Fiatoa hit .667 with just one error in nine attempts. Kylie Hoagland was efficient with four kills in 10 attempts.
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) chipped in with two kills in the third set.
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) had 24 assists before coming out early in the third set.
Betty Van Lith (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle H.S.) had seven.
Alex Green (Peoria, Ariz./Cactus H.S.) dug up 11 attack attempts and
Savannah Garcia (Platteville, Colo./Valley H.S.) and
Tiffany Harris (Dublin, Calif./Dublin H.S.) each had six.
Hoagland and Quijano each had four block assists as the Roadrunners had eight total blocks.
The Roadrunners hit .412 in the first set, limiting BHSU to just .143. A six-point run helped helped Metro State pull away from a 16-15 lead.
MSU Denver jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the second.
It was all Roadrunners defense in the third as they held the Yellow Jackets to a -.231 hitting percentage. After falling behind 6-2, Metro State outscored BHSU 23-5 the rest of the way, including eight of the next nine points.
Metro State wraps up the regular season on Saturday at home against Chadron State at 5 p.m.
