Box Score DENVER- Metro State defeated University of Colorado at Colorado Springs 3-1 on Saturday night to give coach
Debbie Hendricks her 500th career victory. The win increased the Roadrunners' record to 14-9 overall and 10-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The loss dropped the Mountain Lions to 10-13 overall and 6-9 in the RMAC.
Hendricks is the 15th active NCAA Division II coach and 29th all-time with 500 wins.
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) led the way for the Roadrunners with a double-double with 19 kills (19-6-38) and 13 digs. Haun also tied her career high with six service aces. The Roadrunners as a team had a season-high 13 service aces on the night.
In the first set Metro State fell to UCCS 26-24 despite having more kills than the Mountain Lions. The Roadrunners unfortunately had eight attacking errors which lowered their attacking percentage to .175 (15-8-40), while the Mountain Lions hit .235 (12-4-34).
In the second set, the Roadrunners came out strong hitting .483 (16-2-29) in route to a 25-17 set victory. Leading the way for the Roadrunners were
Alysa Heath (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) who hit .500 (4-0-8) in the set,
Kylee Hoagland (Mead, Colo./Skyline H.S.) who hit 1.000 (3-0-3), and Haun who hit .500 (5-1-8).
In the third set, Metro State hit only .172 (10-5-29) but helped force UCCS to hit even worse as it hit -.111 (6-9-27). Leading the way for the Roadrunners in the third set was
Vasati Fiatoa (Las Vegas, Nev./Bonanza H.S.) who hit 1.000 (4-0-4) in the set.
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) also had four service aces in the third set to help give the Roadrunners a 25-17 set victory.
In the fourth set, the Roadrunners hit .296 (12-4-27) while holding the Mountain Lions to a .000 (9-9-30) hitting percentage. Leading the way for the Roadrunners in the set was Haun who hit .625 (6-1-8) to help give Metro State a 25-15 set victory.
Metro State had 49 assists on the night with Torr leading the way with 43 for the Roadrunners. Other highlights included Fiatoa with a career high hitting percentage of .455 (6-1-11) on the night and Torr tying a career high of four service aces.
Metro State will be back in action on Friday when it heads to Lakewood to take on Colorado Christian at 7 p.m.
