Women's basketball: Cold shooting costs Roadrunners in loss to CSU-Pueblo

Box Score DENVER - Metro State shot 24.3 percent in the second half to fall 57-50 to Colorado State-Pueblo on Saturday in Denver. The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CSU-Pueblo improved to 7-3 and 4-0 in the RMAC.

The loss overshadowed a career night from Tai Jensen (Troy, Idaho/Troy H.S.), who poured in 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds—both career highs. The senior shot 12-of-17 from the floor. The rest of the team combined to shoot just 14.5 percent from the floor. Deni Jacobs (Plains, Kan./Southwestern Heights H.S.) was 3-for-8 with seven points off the bench.

Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) had nine rebounds and Fawn Brady (Grand Junction, Colo./Grand Junction H.S.) pulled down eight, but the pair combined for 10 points.

Metro State committed a season-low nine turnovers and forced 15, while outrebounding the ThunderWolves 50-35. But CSU-Pueblo shot 44.7 percent, compared to 27.8 percent for MSU Denver. Metro State also hit just 2-of-20 from the outside.

The Roadrunners started the game out with a 17-6 lead, but CSUP outscored Metro State 27-11 over the final 11:30 of the first half to lead 33-28 at half.

Metro State got within one point several times throughout the second half. The ThunderWolves led 51-50 with 4:44 left and scored six straight points to build a 57-50 lead with under a minute remaining to hold on for the win.

The Roadrunners hit the road for a game at Black Hills State on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
