Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. - Adams State built an eight-point lead late in the second half and survived a late Metro State run to win 59-53 in Alamosa, Colo., on Saturday night. The Roadrunners fell to 17-8 overall and 15-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while ASU improved to 9-15 and 6-14. It was MSU's second loss in as many nights after a 64-48 setback at Fort Lewis on Friday.
The Grizzlies broke a 39-39 tie with a 3-pointer by Keyondra White with 11:41 remaining and held the lead for the remainder of the game.
They led 53-45 with 3:16 left before
Cassie Lambrecht (Colorado Springs/Golden H.S.) and
Emily Wood (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) buried back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the lead to two points with just under two minutes to go.
ASU sunk all six of its free throw attempts in the final minute to secure the win.
The two teams battled to a back-and-forth first half that saw eight lead changes and six ties. ASU closed the half on a 6-0 run and led 29-26 at the break after holding MSU to 37.5 percent shooting.
Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) led MSU with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Wood added 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
Kristin Valencia (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) had eight points and eight rebounds and Lambrecht added seven points.
For the second night in a row, cold shooting doomed the Roadrunners as they made just 33.3 percent of their shots despite winning the turnovers battle (11-to-12) and the rebounding battle (39-to-36).
Metro State will wrap up the regular season at home next weekend against UC-Colorado Springs and Colorado State-Pueblo.
