Tennis: Men defeat UT-Permian Basin while women fall to UTPB and Air Force

USAF Academy, Colo.- The Metro State men's tennis team defeated Texas-Permian Basin 6-3 over the weekend while the women fell to UT-Permian Basin 5-4 and Air Force 7-0.

Men
The men's tennis team had a strong showing against fellow South-Central Regional opponent UT-Permian Basin by winning 6-3. 

In doubles play, the team of Trevor Jones (Vancouver, Wash./Mountain View H.S.)/Nick Baker (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit West H.S.) won No. 1 doubles and the pairing of Adrien Delvaux (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound H.S.)/Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) won No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Graetz won No. 1 singles along with Delvaux winning No. 2 singles.  Baker also won No. 3 singles and John Qualls (Henderson, Nev./Foothill H.S.) won No. 5 singles.


Women
The women's team fell to UT-Permain Basin 5-4 on Friday despite a strong showing from several new athletes. 

In doubles action, the pairing of Wanda Holopainen (Lahti, Finland/Salpausselän H.S.)/Taylor Larreau (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman H.S.) were able to take No. 2 doubles 9-7.

In singles play the Roadrunners were able to take the top three matches as, Naomi Holopainen (Lahti, Finland/Salpausselän H.S.) (No. 1 singles), Wanda Holopainen (Lahti, Finland/Salpausselän H.S.) (No. 2 singles), and Cristina Oropeza (Nogales, Ariz./Nogales H.S.) (No. 3 singles) all won.
On Saturday the women's tennis team fell to Air Force 7-0.


Both the men's and women's tennis teams will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday when Metro State hosts its first tournament on its new tennis courts.
