Box Score DENVER - A school-record 73.1 percent field goal shooting in the first half propelled Metro State to a 78-48 win over Colorado School of Mines on Saturday at Auraria Event Center. It was lowest number of points the Roadrunners have allowed an opponent this season. The Roadrunners improved to 5-8 overall and 4-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Orediggers dropped to 3-10 and 2-7.
The Roadrunners led by 13 in the first five minutes of the game, but committing 10 turnovers, and an 18-10 point run by the Orediggers, the score was 26-21 with 7:29 left in the half.
Amy Nelson (Richmond, Utah/Sky View H.S.) started a Roadrunners drive with her first two points with 7:08 on the clock. Nelson ended the half with 10 points.
Cassie Lambrecht (Colorado Springs/Golden H.S.) had 14 points in the first half, leading the Roadrunners to the locker room up 47-29.
Although the Roadrunners were 39.3 percent (11-28) in field goal range in the second half, the Orediggers were 3-23 for 13.0 percent, and Metro State was up by as many as 31 points with 5:20 left in the game.
Nelson led Metro State with 17 points, Lambrecht had 16 points and seven assists, and
Kya DeGarmo (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado H.S.) had 13 points and seven assists for the game.
Tai Jensen (Troy, Idaho/Troy H.S.) and
Fawn Brady (Grand Junction, Colo./Grand Junction H.S.) each had nine rebounds, while
Deni Jacobs (Plains, Kan./Southwestern Heights H.S.) had eight.
Allie Grazulis led CSM with a double-double 14 points and 11 rebounds, while teammate Courtney Martin had 10 points for the game.
The Roadrunners will travel to Adams State University Jan. 17 and to Fort Lewis College Jan. 18.
