DENVER – The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's tennis team fell 5-4 to Western New Mexico while the women lost 9-0 to the Mustangs on Friday afternoon at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver.
Junior
Nick Baker (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit West H.S.) was the only Roadrunner to win both his singles match and his doubles match on the day. Baker posted a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 victory at the No. 3 singles spot. Baker partnered with freshman
Trevor Jones (Vancouver, Wash./Mountain View H.S.) to win the No 2 doubles match 9-8 (4). Senior
Adrien Delvaux (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound H.S.) and sophomore
Chris Anderson (El Paso, Texas/Americas H.S.) won the No. 2 singles and No. 6 singles matches, respectively.
On the women's side, the Roadrunners battled, but fell short at both the No. 1 and No. 4 singles positions. Freshman
Wanda Holopainen (Lahti, Finland/Salpausselän H.S.) lost her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-7 (1) 10-8 and sophomore
Kaitlyn Miller (Castle Rock, Colo./Rock Canyon H.S.) fell in the No. 4 singles match 6-3, 6-9 (2) 10-5.
The Roadrunners will return to the court at 3 p.m. MT on Saturday, April 12 for men's and women's matches against Colorado Mesa.
