Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) has won 12 consecutive singles matches at No. 1, breaking the school record for consecutive wins at No. 1 singles.
• Previously the school record was nine held by Peter Lantz (2000) and Sascha Ruckelshausen (2009).
• Graetz has also broken the school record for most wins in a single season with 23 (previous record was 22 by Lucio Cangiano in 2012).
• The women's team is down two of its top three singles players due to injuries.
GRAETZ NAMED RMAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
•
Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) was named RMAC player of the week on the men's side on March 19.
• Graetz earned a big win at No. 1 singles against Bethany College on March 13, winning 6-4, 6-0 over Laurentsi Arakhamiya, who is ranked No. 27 in NAIA
• On March 14, Graetz earned another singles win again Koo Miyake from Wartburg College, winning the first and second set 6-0.
• He also competed in doubles that day with
Adrien Delvaux (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound H.S.), winning 8-1.
• Graetz earned the award again on April 2.
• He went 4-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-1 at No. 1 doubles with teammate
Adrien Delvaux (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound H.S.).
• Graetz won all four of his singles matches in straight sets, including a win against No. 50 Sonoma State on Sunday against West Region No. 17 Matt Roberts.
HOLOPAINEN MAKES HISTORY BY WINNING REGIONAL:
•
Naomi Holopainen (Lahti, Finland/Salpausselän H.S.) became the second female player in school history to win the ITA regional singles championship during the fall season.
• Jasmon Crabb (2002) was the only other player in history to win the singles title.
• Two pairs have won the regional doubles championship, most recently Rebecca Meares and Jessica Meares in 2003.
• Holopainen is ranked No. 28 in Division II singles, the first nationally-ranked female at Metro State since 2004 (Rebecca Meares).
BACK HOME:
• Metro State's tennis teams returned back to campus in 2013-14 for the first time since 2010.
• Construction for the Hotel and Hostitality Learning Center and Marriott SpringHill Suites took place on the previous on-campus tennis courts.
• The new tennis courts were completed during the summer of 2013 and are the first phase of the The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver.
LEADING THE WAY IN THE CLASSROOM:
• The women's team had a 3.55 grade point average during the fall semester, best of any Metro State athletics team.
• The men's team had a 3.29 GPA during the fall semester.
• Six athletes made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll during the fall semester (3.5 GPA or higher):
