Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. - For the second night in a row,
Lauren Quijano (Wildomar, Calif./Elsinore H.S.) had a career high in kills to lead Metropolitan State University of Denver to a road win, this time a 23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 15-12 victory at Adams State. MSU Denver is now 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while ASU dropped to 7-4 and 2-1 in the RMAC.
Quijano topped Friday night's total of 23 kills with 27 on Saturday, hitting .404 in the process. She also had a season-high seven blocks.
Kylie Haun (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest H.S.) had 13 kills,
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) had 11, and
Kylee Hoagland (Mead, Colo./Skyline H.S.) and
Vasati Fiatoa (Las Vegas, Nev./Bonanza H.S.) each had 10. Fiatoa hit .562 and had three blocks, while Hoagland had four blocks.
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) tied a career high with 62 assists and helped the Roadrunners hit .300. She also led the team with 12 digs.
Summer Greager (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian H.S.) and
Savannah Garcia (Platteville, Colo./Valley H.S.) each had 10 digs.
Trailing 19-18 in the second set, MSU Denver scored five straight points to take a 23-19 lead and go on to the win. It was another late run in the third set putting MSU Denver ahead 2-1 in the match. Tied 17-17, the Roadrunners scored eight of the final nine points as Smith had three kills during the run.
ASU made a comeback in the fourth set, trailing 22-17, but scored eight of the final nine points to force the deciding set.
The Roadrunners dug themselves a 9-5 hole, but rallied behind Quijano, who had seven kills in the fifth set.
MSU Denver returns home to host No. 23 Colorado Mesa on Thursday at 7 p.m.
