Women's soccer: Farley and Rolph help MSU Denver open new era with win

Box Score DENVER - Brandi Farley (Colorado Springs/Pine Creek H.S.) and Abby Rolph (Golden, Colo./Golden H.S.) scored second-half goals to give No. 16 Metropolitan State University of Denver a 2-0 win over West Texas A&M on Thursday night in the first-ever regular season game at The Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver. The game was the first this season for both teams.

It was a tale of two halves for the Roadrunners, who were outshot 7-6 in the first half. But they responded in the second half to outshoot the Lady Buffs 11-4 as heavy rain fell at times in the latter half of the contest.

Farley got the Roadrunners on the board first, scoring on a breakaway after a long pass from midfield from Noemy Polanco (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood H.S.) at 63:07. Just four minutes later, Karisa Price (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland H.S.) was fouled in the box at 67:12, leading to Rolph converting a penalty kick for the 2-0 lead.

Sam McCurley (Centennial, Colo./Littleton H.S.) made two saves, but came out of the game at 19:39 with an injury. Breanna Flores (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) played the final 70:21 to earn the win.

The Roadrunners have now won eight straight games against WTAMU and are 9-2-1 all-time against the Lady Buffs. Rolph has three goals in three of those wins.

MSU Denver will host Dallas Baptist at noon on Saturday.
