Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's tennis team defeated Colorado College 8-1 and the women's team fell 5-4 on Sunday afternoon.

"Both the men and women played tough today," said head coach Daniel Hangstefer.  "The men pulled through and the women came up just short.  We are looking to build off of today and continue to improve."

The men's team swept the doubles competition with an 8-4 wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions as well as an 8-5 win at the No. 3 position.   Sophomore Calum Hayes (Leeds, England/Guiseley H.S.) dominated his No. 5 singles match winning 6-1, 6-0.  Senior Porter Emery (Casper, Wyo./San Joaquin H.S. (Calif.)) came from behind to win the No. 2 singles 4-6, 6-3, 10-3.

For the women, sophomore Courtney Wright (Houston, Texas/Memorial H.S.) continued her winning ways.  Wright won the No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-3 and partnered with sophomore Emily Kerr (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) to win at the No. 1 doubles position 8-6.

The MSU Denver women's tennis team will host Weber State at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 4 and the men's tennis team will travel to face Norther Colorado in Greeley, Colo. at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 5.
