Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's tennis team was defeated 5-4 by BYU-Hawaii on Saturday, April 9 at the Regency Athletic Complex. MSU Denver drops to 8-14 overall on the 2015-16 season.
"It was a tough loss but I think it's important for the men to put themselves in a position to win like they did today," said head coach Daniel Hangstefer "Joey and Brandon both played very well in singles."
In singles play, the Roadrunners were able to win three matches, including at the No. 1 spot as freshman Joey Tscherne (Sylmar, Calif./John F. Kennedy H.S.) defeated Ibrahim Karmadzhe 6-3, 6-3 . Sophomore Brandon Nachbar (Colorado Springs, Colo./Discovery Canyon Campus) was also victorius in the No. 2 spot, winning his match 6-1, 2-0 after BYU-Hawaii's Volodymyr Kashytski retired.
MSU Denver earned one win in doubles play thanks to freshman Keenan Kaltenbacher (Colorado Springs, Colo./The Classical Academy) and senior Porter Emery (Casper, Wyo./San Joaquin H.S. (Calif.)), who defeated brahim Karmadzhe and Colton Pate 9-8 (5).
The Roadrunners conclude their regular season on Friday, April 15 at Colorado Mesa in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match.
